Despite losing to the Coalition's Tony Abbott in Australia's recently concluded Federal Elections, Kevin Rudd and wife, Therese Rein, still found a reason to smile and laugh amidst the crowd of Labour supporters. This Kevin Rudd news seemed to be good for those who still support the Labour party.

For a group of Labour supporters who lost to the Opposition, they were not exactly crying because of Mr Rudd's harrowing defeat. It was a night of festivities in Brisbane on election night as what was supposed to be a campaign wake.

The mood changed from somber to festive when the Kevin Rudd entered the room to concede to Tony Abbott and announce his resignation as Australian Labour Party leader. The crowd of supporters gave the former Prime Minister a resounding cheer as he delivered his speech. To an outsider, it would have looked as if Labour had won the election and not lost badly to the Opposition. Unlike in 2010, when Kevin Rudd lost the party leadership to Julia Gillard, Mr Rudd's lips did not quiver and no tears were shed this time.

The outgoing Prime Minister remained calm and composed as he accepted his defeat. He congratulated Tony Abbott for winning the election. Mr Rudd quipped when he entered Gabba in South Brisbane: "Geez, I thought we had lost." For a man who was once criticised by other party members as having no values, Kevin Rudd widely embraced the party when he said, "I gave it my all, but it was not enough to win."

After ending his speech, Mr Rudd kissed and hugged his wife. He shook hands with his sons, Nicholas and Marcus. His family was with him as he announced his decision to step down as ALP leader. He said his voice will not be heard in public for some time. Meanwhile LNP candidate Bill Glasson slammed the latest Kevin Rudd news on election night for being "churlish, sanctimonious, disrespectful and smart-arsed" after the defeated Labour candidate "bragged" about his victory in his own seat during the concession speech.

Mr Rudd had said, "It would be un-prime ministerial of me to say, 'Bill Glasson, eat your heart out', so I won't."

The deposed leader was reported to be babysitting his granddaughter in their suburb home at Norman Park, eastern part of Brisbane. It was unclear if Mr Rudd will serve the full-term as a Member for Griffith. His staff had confirmed he had no public appearances on schedule. The public won't hear of Kevin Rudd news unless he's put in the spotlight again.
