Kevin Rudd Welcomes Arrival of New Baby Girl - His Grandkid
What has former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd been up to these days?
The gruelling world of politics has been shunned lately by Mr Rudd but on Thursday he got one of the biggest milestones of his life - the world has welcomed the entry of the Labor backbencher's first grandchild - a baby girl.
According to Courier Mail, Mr Rudd was having a barbeque party with the homeless in Brisbane when he got the call informing him that his daughter, Jessica Rudd, has given birth to six-pound baby girl.
The baby actually weighed 6.3 lbs, Mr Rudd informed his audience as he announced: "I have just become a grandfather."
"My granddaughter's name is Josephine Therese ... and I've got to rip down to the hospital and inspect the inheritance," Courier Mail quoted Mr Rudd as saying in making a quick bye from his audience to rush to Jessica's side, who was confined in Brisbane's Mater Mothers Hospital.
Clearly, Mr Rudd was overwhelmed with excitement as he took to Twitter on Friday morning and told the world: "Well folks, I'm totally stoked ... Jess has given birth to a beautiful baby girl."
His wife, Therese Rein, followed through the Twitter announcement with a post that says: "Toe-curling joy as I gaze into the eyes of my brand-new baby granddaughter. Words inadequate."
The Rudd family also disclosed that the new baby, who will be named Josephine Therese, was delivered as scheduled.
Jessica also said on her Twitter page that the new born is doing great.
"Albert and I are delighted to announce that Josephine Therese Tse arrived yesterday - her due date! Clever girl."
Albert is Albert Tse, Jessica's husband, who works for Macquarie Bank's operations in China, according to the Australian Associated Press (AAP).
The two are based in Beijing, where Jessica pursues her career as a writer.
