Daniel 'Boobie' Gibson, Cleveland Cavalier's Guard and Keyshia Cole's husband, has been released from police custody late Monday morning [PDT Time].

It has been reported that Gibson turned himself in for unclear assault and battery charges to New Orleans Police Department.

In a phone call to TMZ Live, 'Boobie' Gibson confirmed that he was charged with 2nd degree battery charges in relation to a dispute with a group of people that happened during the Essence Festival earlier this month.

Though the NBA player couldn't say more due to ongoing legal issues, he told TMZ that 'there was definitely some disrespecting' and that 'the situation called for [him] to make sure that [his] wife was safe' after a fan came up to Keyshia and profanely insulted her.

Daniel decided to take matters into his own hands and was compelled to 'defend his wife's honour.'

Gibson took to twitter to further comment on the issue surrounding his arrest:

Keyshia Cole and Daniel Gibson have been together since 2009 and was married in 2011.
