Khan Upset at Mayweather, British Boxer Put Trust on the Dream Fight Only for Mayweather to Blow it Up on His Face
Amir Khan has finally aired out his feelings regarding Floyd Mayweather's decision to clash with Marcos Maidana on May 3 instead of him. Khan is really upset about how all the waiting and delay that he did had earned him nothing. He uttered his frustrations via the statement he released on his official Web site.
According to Khan, Mayweather's decision came as no surprise to him. He has been bracing himself for the bad news long before the undefeated boxer announced that he is facing Maidana on his third fight for Showtime.
"I, am, very disappointed with Floyd and his team for not providing any explanation as to why he delayed the announcement for so long and ultimately avoided the fight with me," explained Khan.
"Clarification, if he was not fighting me, would have allowed me to look over my options and pursue another path, rather than the ultimate delay to my career this has caused," he added.
Khan explained that what had frustrated him the most is the fact that he had let get of his chance to fight in December in a supposedly clash against Devon Alexander because he was told he would be facing Mayweather. "I was strongly advised not to take this fight as I would be facing Floyd this May, and therefore signed my side of the contract on this belief," Khan stated. He was training with Virgil Hunter for his fight against Alexander in San Francisco when the rumour to fight Mayweather came about. Had the fight been set, Khan will reportedly take home a career-high purse of more than £6 million. Khan had been out of the boxing ring for 13 months since he last fought Julio Diaz on April 27, 2013.
"I clearly won his official poll, by a significant margin, but for unknown reasons he decided to ignore the fans vote and failed to keep his word."
Undoubtedly, Khan won the poll. Maidana was leading the votes during the first couple of days, but Khan eventually won the sentiments of many boxing fans all over the world, receiving 20,105 out of the 35, 579 total votes.
Nonetheless, Khan doesn't want to feel so stressed and upset over Mayweather fight. There is no use crying over spilled milk. He chose not to continue feeling flustered and dismayed over the current matter. Khan said that he is only wishing both Mayweather and Maidana the very best for their upcoming bout.
"I'm focused and ready for my next outing."
"My team are working alongside Golden Boy Promotions to announce my next fight within the next 10 days," Khan conluded.
