Kim Kardashian Gets Three-Year Extension From GLU Mobile On Hugely Successful Hollywood Mobile Game
Kim Kardashian West is turning into quite the mini-mogul with the expansion of her business empire. After starting out in fashion and retail and eventually shooting up to stardom through her reality TV shows, Kim ventured into an array of other businesses with her family. The latest endeavour she embarked in is a video game called "Kim Kardashian Hollywood." The success of the game has prompted its makers GLU mobile to pen a deal extension with the reality TV star for another three years.
The idea behind the game is for users to take control of a character who starts out as a minor celebrity. Through various activities like photo shoots, interviews and appearances in high profile events, the character's star power shines brighter and eventually levels up into a bigger celebrity just like Kim.
According to an article on SFgate.com, the extension gives GLU Mobile exclusive rights to Kim Kardashian's name and likeness in any related game that is meant to be played on any mobile device or game console. The exclusivity agreement not extends all the way until June 30, 2019.
The motivation behind the contract extension could be the whopping 33% rise in GLU Mobile's shares this year with the game having been out in the market for only about three months. The same article reports that the game raked in $1.6 million in just the first five days.
While the game is free to play, there are various in-app purchases that users have access to in order to speed up their character's quest to A-list status. The game runs on currency called "K-stars" that can be used to boost the character's energy. This way, more appearances and self-marketing activities can be accomplished. Special hairstyles and outfits may also be purchased for one's character in order to keep up with the fashionista star.
The latest game updates also incorporate Kim's jet-setting ways with options for the character to fly to some of Kim's favourite overseas cities like Paris, London and Sydney. With the game now expanding beyond Hollywood, the developers are also hoping to reach a more global market for the game just like the reach of Kim's reality shows. The deal also allows a provision for the developers to create other games using the Kardashian brand.
