Kim Kardashian held at gunpoint and robbed of $14M jewellery in Paris; Kanye West abruptly stops show
Kim Kardashian was held at gunpoint and tied up in the bathroom of her luxury flat in Paris by armed robbers early Sunday morning. Upon learning of the incident, Kanye West abruptly stopped his performance in New York to rush to his wife.
About € 10 million (AU$14.6 million) worth of jewellery, including a ring worth about € 4 million (AU$5.85 million), were stolen by masked men who put a gun to Kardashian’s temple.
Five men who were dressed as police officers with ski masks stormed inside the exclusive apartment complex where the “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” star was staying for the Paris Fashion Week. Police told Reuters that two of the men threatened the night guard with a hand gun and entered Kardashian’s apartment.
Multiple reports claimed that the men held a gun to the TV personality’s head, tied her up and locked her in the bathroom so they could steal her jewellery collection. They also apparently bound the guard before they made their escape on bicycles. The guard was found with his hand and feet tied in the staircase later on by the police.
Kardashian was reportedly able to loosen her restraints after the robbers fled, allowing her to call for help. She has given her statement to the police and has since left Paris. A spokeswoman for the reality TV show star said Kardashian was “badly shaken but physically unharmed.”
It’s unclear where were her and West’s children – 3-year-old daughter North and 10-month-old son Saint – during the incident. The whole family has been placed under police protection. The police has yet to make an arrest.
West, meanwhile, abruptly ended his performance in New York upon learning of Kardashian’s ordeal. “I’m sorry I have a family emergency. I have to stop the show,” he told the audience. The moment was captured on camera by fans at the Meadows Festival in Queens. Watch the clip here.
The Meadows Festival also released a statement, explaining West’s sudden cancellation.
