Nirvana is known for bringing the grunge genre into the mainstream. The early 1990s saw Nirvana taking off with hits like "Smells Like Teen Spirit," "Come As You Are," and more. It has also been described as "one of the most influential in rock & roll history," by Stephen Thomas Erlewine of Allmusic.com. Apart from the success, the band's frontman Kurt Cobain had a sad tale to share. He suffered from drug addiction and depression. In 1994, he shot himself dead.

The induction ceremony of the artists will take place at Barclays Centre, Brooklyn, New York on April 10, 2014.

Apart from the six performers for 2014, Rolling Stones manager Andrew Loog Oldham and Beatles manager Brian Epstein were selected for the Ahmet Ertegun Award.
