Konrad Hurrell Fined and Censured for Alleged Sex Tape Scandal
New Zealand Warriors centre Konrad Hurrell was censured and fined $5,000 by the NRL committee for the alleged sex tape scandal with his actress girlfriend Teuila Blakely.
The investigation was initiated by the Warriors on Monday after the sex tape was somehow leaked on the Internet. The tape showed the 22-year-old Hurrell driving the car, while his girlfriend was involved in a sexual act with him.
The Warriors chief executive, Wayne Scurrah, confirmed the investigation was over on Wednesday.
Aside from being fined and censured, Hurrell will also undergo counselling on the use of social media.
"Konrad is full of remorse over what has happened ... While the incident involved two consenting adults, his action in sharing the content with others was unacceptable and inappropriate," Scurrah said.
The floating of the sex tape has triggered a lot of controversy. However, it was not sure who was responsible for leaking the tape. Both Hurrell and Blakely confirmed the video taken from the phone was purely personal, and they had no intention to make it ublic.
Scurrah further added that Hurrell is active in joining the social media seminars organised by NRL.
"He knows the expectations but in this case he made a poor choice," Scurrah added.
Hurrell was selected in the Warriors squad to play against Canberra at Eden Park on Saturday and was very much sorry for the incident.
"I am so sorry this has happened and want to apologise for the trouble I have caused ... I've embarrassed the club, my teammates, the members and most of all my family. I made a bad decision but I will learn from this," Hurrell said.
The Warriors coach, Andrew McFadden, earlier stated the incident was unlikely to hamper the team.
"It's probably embarrassing for Konrad, but we all make mistakes and he's made one and he will have to live with the consequences of that ... In terms of having any impact on the rest of the team, I don't think that should happen," McFadden said
