Kris And Bruce Jenner: Road To Divorce
Kris and Bruce Jenner were the entertainment power couple that glued together the Kardashian-Jenner clan up until two weeks ago. They filed for divorce on Sept. 22, 2014 after being separated for nearly a year. Their divorce marks the end of an era for reality television and here's the story of their relationship that spanned 23 years.
Previous Marriages
Kris was a young mother of four children and freshly separated from her first husband when she met Bruce Jenner. She had been married to high-profile lawyer Robert Kardashian who is the father of the four Kardashian children who would eventually become celebrities in their own right. Kourtney was 11, Kim 10, Khloe 5 and Robert 2 when their parents split up.
Bruce Jenner was an Olympic Gold Medallist for the decathlon and has since made a career as a public figure, motivational speaker and businessman. He also had a short career as a racecar driver. He had been married twice before. His first wife was Christie Crownover and they had two children, Burt and Casey. He subsequently fathered two more children with his second wife, Linda Thompson. Brandon and Brody Jenner have occasionally made appearances in "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" with the other Kardashian and Jenner children.
Whirwind Romance and More Children
Kris and Bruce were set up on a date by a common friend, Candace Garvey. In a recent interview for "Beyond Candid" with Giuliana Rancic, Kris shared that their first date took place only three weeks after Kris and Robert were separated and they decided to get married only five months later.
Kris and Bruce each had four children from their previous marriages but they wanted some of their own. They initially had problems conceiving, but after a year of trying, Kris finally became pregnant with Kendall Jenner. They eventually had another daughter, Kylie. Kris experienced several health complications while she was pregnant with Kylie and this led her to decide that she didn't want t to have any more children.
The "Momager"
When Bruce and Kris were married, Kris began managing her husband's career. She handmade press kits and sent them out to different companies around the United States, and through her efforts, the demand rose for Bruce and his appearances. This was how she claims her role as "momager" started.
As the children grew up, Kris, Bruce and Robert aimed to give them as normal a life as possible and the siblings became very close. Even Robert and Bruce developed a friendship of their own. The children would spend every other weekend with their father and this afforded Kris the luxury of joining Bruce whenever he needed to travel for a speaking engagement.
She used the entrepreneurial skills she learned from her grandmother and her mother as well as the business and PR skills she learned from her ex-husband to help Bruce with his career. Eventually, she and her daughters opened up two retail stores called Smooch and DASH.
After some prodding from friends, Kris met up with TV host and producer Ryan Seacrest and pitched her story of making a reality TV show. In 2007, "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" was born starring Kris, Bruce and their children.
Separation and Divorce
The lives of the Kardashians and the Jenners were never the same again. Their personal triumphs and tragedies have since been played out on screen for the entire public to see in 156 countries. In the show, Kris and Bruce would often clash with each other but just like any family, their issues were always resolved. However, in season 9, Bruce decided to move to a house in Malibu. They eventually announced their separation in October 2013.
Despite not living together, Bruce was still a constant presence at the Jenner house in Calabasas and he still made efforts to spend time with his children, the Kardashians included. The family went on a vacation to Thailand in early 2014 and during the trip, the constant bickering and disagreements between the two caused Kendall and Kylie to run away from the hotel.
In another family trip, this time to Europe for Kim's wedding to Kanye West, Bruce did his duty as the stepfather and walked Kim down the aisle. The family showed a united front for the world's media to see.
A few months later, on September 22, Kris Jenner made it official and filed for divorce. Bruce followed suit with the same petition for divorce citing irreconcilable differences. In the weeks that followed, both have been spotted out with different companions and speculations are growing about either of them moving on to other relationships. Kris has expressed her desire to fall in love again and it only remains to be seen what the future holds for both of them.
