Kim Kardashian can become a single woman again this week if she apologises to estranged husband Kris Humphries. According to reports, the Brooklyn Nets basketball player will finally settle for divorce instead of annulment if the "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" star would only apologise to him in court.

Humphries married the reality TV star in August 2011 in a lavish wedding ceremony aired for television. But just after 72 days of marriage, Kardashian filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences. He filed his response to the legal papers, stating that he wanted an annulment on the grounds of fraud or, if the court wouldn't grant them an annulment, a decree of legal separation.

Both parties didn't want to budge, and thus the case is at standstill.

However, reports now claim that Humphries is willing to compromise and give Kardashian her divorce. Kardashian is currently pregnant with her boyfriend Kanye West's baby.

According to TMZ, Humphries is softening his stance because if their case goes to trial, he will get no money from his wife. He reportedly demanded $7 million settlement from her.

There was also no evidence that Kardashian had defrauded him, based on the depositions they've gone through and the legal documents that they've submitted.

But a source told Radar Online that Humphries never asked for the reported $7 million settlement from Kardashian. He apparently never said that he wouldn't settle, but he just wants his wife to agree to certain conditions and terms.

"Put simply, if Kim were to formally apologise to Kris in court tomorrow - and if he felt it were sincere - he would likely agree to end the marriage and avoid the trial," the source said.

He also wants the pregnant starlet to release a formal statement to the media, apologising.

"If Kim comes into court with an attitude and acting full of herself, Kris will absolutely take this to trial," the insider continued.

The trial will proceed on May 6 if both parties are unable to reach an agreement.

This is Kardashian's second marriage, while it's the first for Humphries.
