One of the shortest marriages in the world was a pretty costly affair for Kris Humphries. And we are talking about the $2 million rock that once rested on Kim Kardashian's engagement ring.

Sadly, the marriage ended and now Kris Humphries is the owner of the ring (it sounds like "Lord of the Rings"). Anyway, the NBA star is willing to auction off the Lorraine Schwartz ring at a forthcoming Christie's auction in New York.

The ring is expected to fetch Humphries between $300,000 and $500,000 which is less than a quarter of the original cost of the ring. Ouch! that must have hurt Humphries pretty bad.

The gorgeous ring crafted by Lorraine Schwartz, Kardashian's family friend and designer, is listed in the auction titled "Bright and Beautiful" which will start on Oct. 15.

Humphries has not publicly announced the sale of Kim's engagement ring, and the item is listed as 'property of a gentleman,' but the size mentioned of the rock is same as that of the ring that Kim Kardashian once proudly flaunted.

Picture of the sparkler listed in Christie's auction and the ring that marked the 72-day marriage are a match. The ring listed in Christie's auction is made up of a 16.21-carat diamond (rectangular cut) which is then bordered by a 1.80-carat diamond on either side, as reported by Daily Mail. The total makes it just under 20-carats, which is quite close to Kardashian's ring (just over 20-carats).

It is said that Humphries got a fabulous deal from Lorraine Schwartz who has been designing jewellery for Kardashians for years. The $2 million ring was presented to Kardashian after the former couple had a six-month romance.

Humphries and Kardashian's short-lived romance followed by bad publicity must have impacted the value of the ring in the auction. Gabriel Ford, press representative for Christie, shared with MailOnline that their team of experts "estimate what they believe is worth at this time (of the auction)." It is also reported that a portion of the ring's sale will go to the charity supported by the owner, but the name of the charity as well as the share has not been revealed.
