Kristen Stewart stars in Karl Lagerfeld’s Chanel Film
Actress Kristen Stewart stars in a film by legendary German fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel. The film is being made for the French fashion house’s upcoming Métiers d’Arts show, scheduled to be held on Dec. 1 in Rome.
The storyline has been conceived by the creative director of Chanel himself. It tells the story of an actress who is all set to play the role of the young Chanel founder, Gabrielle Chanel, in a biopic. The Chanel designer is known for creating the wardrobe staple, the little black dress.
As one of Time magazine’s 100 most influential women of the 20th century, Chanel also designed jewellery and handbags. This became synonymous with her signature scent Chanel No 5, which is an iconic product.
In Lagerfeld’s short film, the “Twilight” actress is playing the designer as a young woman who is popularly known as Coco Chanel. Geraldine Chaplin, who portrayed the middle-aged Chanel in previous films by Lagerfeld, also stars in the film, WWD reported.
The two-day shoot was done at Luc Besson’s studio in Paris in July. Most of the filming has been done in a corridor. Apart from conceiving the plot, Lagerfeld has taken care of the dialogue, costumes and casting of the flick. He also roped in Laura Brown, Harper’s Bazaar editor, to play the role of an American journalist.
“They make so many movies about Chanel, why can’t I make one?” said Lagerfeld, who is also the creative director of Italian fashion house Fendi. Speaking about Stewart, the octogenarian designer said that the actress, who first shot to fame with the “Twilight” series loved to play the role of the young designer in the film.
“She played it really, really mean,” said Lagerfeld, who also has his eponymous label. He added that Stewart was mean with the director and the producer.
The 25-year-old American actress, who has appeared in campaigns for Chanel and is a regular at the front row at the label’s shows, will also star in Olivier Assayas new film titled “Personal Shopper.” It is a Paris-set, English-language ghost story taking place in the fashion underworld. The shooting for the film will start by the end of this year.
Stewart also starred in the last project of Assayas, “Sils Maria,” which premiered in Cannes. She became the first American actor to win a Cesar (France’s Oscar equivalent) for the film.
