Kwinana Freeway Crash Kills 1, Rescuers Free Victims from Wreckage
Two cars collided on the Kwinana freeway at 11:20 am Wednesday, killing one person and injuring others.
An ABC photo shows firefighters and authorities responding to the fatal accident near Baldivis, south of Perth. The rescuers told reporters there were still some people trapped in the car wreckage as of press time. It was not yet clear how the accident happened. Details about the victims are still being withheld as concerned families were being reached.
Main Roads has announced the freeway northbound will be closed between Safety Bay Road to Mundijong Road until 4:30 pm at the minimum. Police officers are currently fixing the resulting traffic mess by using one lane on the Kwinana freeway southbound. Drivers (or their families) are being advised to avoid the area if possible.
"All traffic signals at the Safety Bay Road on and off ramps are flashing yellow and police are directing traffic," ABC reported.
A road safety crew is expected to clean up the portion of the freeway where the tragic accident took place.
