Lady Gaga, Barbra Streisand, Malala Yousafzai: Among Glamour's Women of the Year Awardees
Lady Gaga, Barbra Streisand and Malala Yousafzai received the Glamour magazine's Women of the Year Award in a ceremony held Monday night.
The "Bad Romance" singer attended the ceremony in an all-white ensemble, pale makeup and blonde hair in a disgruntled state. But in her acceptance speech, Gaga wishes to be remembered beyond her unique clothes.
"My true talent is not the clothes and not the music. I really feel that what I am best at is seeing the potential in other people," Gaga said.
Barbara Streisand, the 71-year-old singer-actress, received her Lifetime Achievement Award wearing a black skirt suit, black heels and a silver clutch. During her acceptance speech, she covered various topics but she focused on her advocacy for heart disease.
"I couldn't have guessed how much more satisfying it would be to see my name in stainless steel at [the Barbra Streisand Women's Heart Center at] Cedars-Sinai," Streisand noted.
Malala Yousafzai, the 16-year-old women education advocate, appeared before the guests in a ceremony covered from head-to-toe orange. As she accepted the award, Malala reminds everyone that what has happened to her last year would not break her in any way.
"I believe the gun has no power at all. I believe the gun has no power because a gun can only kill. But a pen can give life," Malala stressed.
The three were among the 11 women and a husband-and-wife team chosen by the magazine for its annual recognition of celebrities, athletes, politicians and advocates who had been a great inspiration for women around the world. Other awardees include Kerry Washington, Bill Gates' wife Melinda, Net-a-Porter chairman Natalie Massenet and designer Catherine Martin.
This year, Glamour launched the very first Couple of the Year, which was awarded to former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords and her astronaut Husband Mark Kelly.
