Lady GaGa is releasing a song about the death of Princess Diana. The singer believes she may end up by dying the same way as the British royal. The 25-year-old superstar wrote the track after dubbing Diana a "martyr for fame." A source close to Lady GaGa said that the singer sees herself as a "pop version" of Princess Diana, who died at the age of 36 in a horrific car smash in Paris in 1997.

"GaGa has always been absolutely fixated on Diana and sees herself as a 21st-century incarnation of her," the source said. "She knows she is almost as recognizable as Diana and is hounded by photographers and fans on the same level. GaGa has had dreams about dying the same way as her and has genuine fears that her fame could literally kill her, either in a chase or at the hands of crazies," the source added.

Lady GaGa previously said that she is obsessed by the charity work and fashion sense of Diana. She lifted costume ideas from the princess' wardrobe. Plus, the idea behind her 2009 hit "Paparazzi" also stemmed from the death of the royal princess. "Diana was the most iconic martyr of fame. She died because of it," the singer said.

Lady GaGa played a piano version of her new song to a select few just last month. One critic described it as packed with bitter lyrics around a trademark catchy chorus. Since then, her "Little Monster" fans have flooded websites with messages saying that they cannot wait to hear the new track.
