The Los Angeles Lakers are very much in contention to acquire Kevin Durant when he becomes a free-agent in the summer of 2016, a respectable NBA analyst stated in his latest column last week.

The Lakers will try to contend for a championship in probably the last two seasons of Kobe Bryant's career, but one of the league most winningest franchise are expected to press hard in their pursuit of their future star player in 2016.

CineSport's Noah Coslov and Sheridan talked about Durant's future in a recent video phone conversation, and they talked about the possibility of homecoming for the reigning NBA MVP two seasons from now.

The Washington Wizards have emerged as the biggest threat to the Thunder in keeping their best player in 2016, the year Durant could become an unrestricted free-agent.

Though the Wizards will be calling Durant to go back home like LeBron James did as of late, Sheridan believed the Lakers, with a ton of salary cap space in that year, have a shot to get the high-scoring forward.

"I don't think you can really say that," Sheridan said when asked if it's going to Durant's hometown team the Wizards and his current squad the Thunder who have shot at getting him in 2016.

"Look, the Los Angeles Lakers is going to have a ton of cap room when Kobe Bryant's contract expires after the 2015-16 season. So you're not going to know the NBA landscape two years from now, much less one year from now."

Bryant's two-year, $48.5 million extension with the Lakers will expire after 2015-16 season, allowing the franchise to have a lot of cash to spend that year. If health permits, the Lakers could still get the service of Bryant on a less lucrative contract and Durant on a max deal to form a dynamic duo.

The upcoming TV deal will also give the Lakers the leverage to surround Durant with enough talents to win a championship right away after dropping down to mediocrity in the past two seasons.

The Lakers enter the 2014-15 seasons with a better roster by acquiring Jeremy Lin via trade, Carlos Boozer on secret bidding, Julius Randy via draft pick and Ed Davis via free-agency signing.
