Lakers Trade News: Teams calling about D'Angelo Russell after NBA Draft Lottery
The Los Angeles Lakers are receiving offers for a potential D'Angelo Russell trade after they retained their Top-3 protected draft pick during Tuesday's NBA Draft Lottery, per reports. The second-year point guard could likely be replaced by either Lonzo Ball or Markelle Fultz, the two highly touted floor generals that headline this year's draft class.
On Tuesday, the Lakers became the first team in NBA history to win the No. 2 overall pick for three consecutive seasons. They are expected to draft either Ball or Fultz depending on Boston Celtics' No. 1 overall selection. The Philadelphia 76ers will select No. 3 in next month's NBA Draft.
According to Sports Illustrated, "With the Los Angeles Lakers coming away with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft following Tuesday night’s lottery, multiple NBA teams are evaluating trade packages for D’Angelo Russell, league sources told SI.com."
"Russell, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft, still has two years remaining on his rookie contract and could be an attractive option to teams in search of a point guard, rather than splurging on an expensive free agent lead Ball handler this offseason." The Lakers had reportedly turned down a potential D'Angelo Russell trade ahead of February's NBA Trade deadline when the Sacramento Kings made DeMarcus Cousins available.
