With their season seems to be slipping away, the Los Angeles Lakers could end up in the draft lottery for the first time in almost a decade. This coming draft might be loaded with high-profile prospects such as Andrew Wiggins and Jabbari Parker, but Australian youngster Dante Exum proves to be a perfect fit for the Lakers moving forward.

Exum, considered one of the best guards available in the draft, is now in its senior year in high school and is set to decide whether he'll play college basketball in the United State or make a jump to the NBA right away.

"To be honest, I haven't been thinking about it too much," Exum said to Jon Pierik of The Sydney Morning Herald. "I am back home but my mum is still in Singapore, so she is going to head back soon. After that I will make my decision with my whole family.

"I want to get it done by February. It shouldn't be too hard [a decision] to make. But I just want to make sure I use my time right so I make the right decision," he added.

Exum said that playing in Australia, outside the spotlight of college basketball in the United States, really bodes well for him because it keeps himself from criticisms while maintaining his stocks high in the draft.

"There has been a lot of hype but I have kind of been undercover being in Australia," Exum said. "I don't mind it and I have adjusted well to it.

"They are getting an advantage and a disadvantage. They might play bad and go down [in rankings]. It's the same with me. I am over here, not playing and they are not seeing me, but still my stock stays up," he added.

Lakers' Point Guard of the Future

Standing at 6-foot-6, Exum is considered as a two-way guard with the ability to make an impact on both ends of the floor. Many general managers really liked Exum's skill to orchestrate offense and score point in bunches when needed.

Of course, everyone is raving about Wiggins, Parker and even double-double machine Julious Randle. But Exum perfectly fits the Lakers system and what they have been doing.

With Nash now on the brink of retirement, Exum can assume the role as the playmaker of the most storied franchise in the NBA. In a league dominated by point guards, Exum' physical tools and high basketball IQ will make the Lakers more dangerous, playing alongside Kobe Bryant and possibly Kevin Love a year after.
