Describing his character; the actor said that he is reliable, fair, loyal and strong. He is not scared of dying, as he knows that as long as he dies in battle he will go to the haven for warriors known as Valhalla, which is a nice place to be.

The two characters are focused on their individual challenges, but their long term mission is to avenge the death of their father. One complication in their relationship in “The Last Kingdom” Season 2 is Uhtred has joined the Saxons and this has had some consequences.
Santelmann explained that Brida (Emily Cox) is not comfortable with the Saxons, and she belongs with the Danes and with Young Ragnar. So far, that has not affected Uhtred, and he is focused on his goal of helping Alfred (David Dawson) with the hope that one day he will have enough power to take back the lands that rightfully belong to him.
Young Ragnar is expected to rise in the ranks of the Danes in “The Last Kingdom” Season 2. Santelmann pointed out that his character and Guthrum (Thomas W. Gabrielsson) slowly became equals in the first season. But, as the leader of the Danes slowly becomes more interested in Christianity; Ragnar feels that they are losing their leader to something that is not their culture.
