'Last Kingdom' season 3 gets support from 'Game of Thrones' author

BBC is yet to announce the greenlighting of “The Last Kingdom” season 3. The popular TV series now has a new fan in “Game of Thrones” writer George RR Martin, who praised the show, the writing, and the actors for their excellent performance.

Martin is currently busy developing new TV shows and is also working on his next book in “A Song of Ice and Fire” series. The celebrity author finds an hour or two every day to kick back and enjoy a good program on TV. Since his favourite shows ended, he began browsing Amazon, Netflix and Hulu for something interesting to watch. He came across the series based on Bernard Cornwell’s Saxon series.

The BBC TV series has often been called a “Game of Thrones” show without the dragons and fantasy elements. The story is told from the point of view of a young warrior named Uhtred, who was born a Saxon, but was taken as a slave by an invading Viking. The young boy was later adopted as a son by the invader and grew up in that culture. He later returned to the Saxon as part of another invading army, but he is now a man of two worlds with divided loyalties. He has his own path to follow while rival kings forge empires and try to use the warrior for their own purposes.

It was natural for Martin to discover the show and love it. He has watched the first two seasons and likes them both. The author considers himself a fan of this medieval TV series, complimenting the writing and the acting. One character he particularly likes is Uhtred. He is happy with the fact that the show is a faithful adaptation of the books.

Martin did suggest that the show would be much better with a bigger budget. Since he is a fan, he said that he hopes there will be a season 3 soon.
