“The Last Of Us 2” and “Red Dead Redemption 2” are arguably one of the year’s most anticipated releases, despite only being announced in the latter part of 2016. But while the two titles have this in common, there is a possibility that they share an award-winning connection between them as well.

NeoGAF member Simo pointed out that there are similarities between “Apertura,” which is from “The Motorcycle Diaries” soundtrack, and the music of RDR2’s reveal trailer. The former was worked on by awarded composer Gustavo Santaolalla, who also lent his talent in the soundtrack of the “The Last Of Us” and is working on its sequel.

As Simo pointed out, there are similarities between “Apertura” and the music for the reveal trailer of “Red Dead Redemption 2.” The clear differences is the in the instruments used, but many have argued that the resemblances are still undeniable. But as the thread pointed out, the work on the Western sequel has been in development since 2013, so any work that Santaolalla did for it is likely to have been completed by now.

Naughty Dog and Rockstar Games, the game developers for TLOU2 and RDR2 respectively, each have their own libraries of music to choose from. The chances of a coincidence are arguably slim. On the other hand, it is completely possible that Santaolalla’s work was used as in inspiration for RDR2, which is why there are noticeable similarities between the scores.

There are only a few details about TLOU2 that have been made public, as creative director Neil Druckmann and the rest of the cast and production team have been relatively mum about the upcoming game. However, it has already been confirmed that the sequel will take place five years after the original and will incorporate Ellie as the main protagonist. Druckmann has also gone on the record to say that the theme will revolve around hate.

The announced details regarding RDR2 are even less. Other than the reveal trailer, Rockstar Games has kept quiet about the game. Many speculate that it will be a prequel as opposed to a follow up, but anything is possible at this point.

There are currently no release dates for “The Last Of Us 2” and “Red Dead Redemption 2.” Naughty Dog has not disclosed any idea as to when its game will premier. Meanwhile, Rockstar Games has confirmed that its Western title will be released within the last quarter of the year.
