'The Last of Us' Gets a Movie, Fans Already Place Bets on Possible Actors and Cast
With the announcement of "The Last of Us" being turned into a movie, it was only a matter of time until fans started speculating on which actors and actresses can play the roles of Joel and Ellie.
While there are no announcements of a cast have been given yet by Sony or Naughty Dog, The Verge reports that the critically acclaimed game is already being transformed into a movie, with creative director Neil Druckmann in charge of writing the script.
"The Last of Us" fans over at had already started their discussions on who the perfect Joel could be, and a common name that appears is Hugh Jackman.
Redditor rojann started a thread on Hugh Jackman being a good choice for Joel, alongside a photo collage comparing the videogame Joel and Jackman in his role for the movie "Prisoners," where he sported a full beard and a rather distressed look.
"I just watched the movie last weekend and some scenes really reminded me of Joel," said rojann.
"If anyone has any doubts about Hugh Jackman, and if he can pull off a character who [has] lost everything, they need to see the film 'Prisoners' with him. he loses his daughter for almost a week, and makes you feel sad, pissed off, and desperate throughout the entire film. In my mind, he can totally pull off being Joel, he's an extraordinary actor!" said Redditor BetterMyToast.
Even Troy Baker, voice actor for Joel in the game, has placed his own bet, stating that he would personally cast Josh Brolin as Joel for "The Last of Us" movie.
However, PlayStation Lifestyle reports that Baker also stated that he trusts the ones who are responsible with the film on their choice of actor and feels that their final choice would be the right one.
Ellen Page for 'The Last of Us' live-action movie?
Given the stark resemblance of Ellie to actress Ellen Page, it's not surprising for some to want her to play the role, especially if you're going for the look-alike angle for "The Last of Us" live-action movie. After Ellen posits some sort of a petition to cast Page alongside a few good notes for the movie.
However, the idea of this may not fly as well as fans would hope, considering that back in 2013, Eurogamer and other sources have reported that Page had accused Naughty Dog of using her likeness to create Ellie. And back then, she didn't like the idea, which she had made known in Reddit, as spotted by the same source.
"I guess I should be flattered that they ripped off my likeness, but I am actually acting in a video game called Beyond: Two Souls, so it was not appreciated," said Page over at Reddit.
While Page may have the talent to accomplish a pretty good job as Ellie, the history between the franchise and the actress may not be stable enough.
Other Ellen possibilities: Chloe Moretz and Elle Fanning
Two of names have also sprouted in the discussion of the movie cast, and these belong to two of young stars who have broken through the Hollywood in their own right.
The first is rising actress Chloe Moretz, who is becoming known for her serious roles, acting chops, and maturity in her films. For those who don't know, she played the legendary Hit Girl in "Kick-Ass," and had maturely handled the cuss-wielding role at the age of thirteen.
Elle Fanning, Dakota Fanning's younger sister, has also been suggested by Reddit fans. Despite her limited role in movies--"Super 8" and the upcoming "Maleficent" are some of her more known works--it seems that face-wise, she can pass as a good Ellie for some fans.
"I saw someone state it last night that Elle Fanning could be Ellie. I didn't agree at first. After seeing some recent pictures of her, I think she can pull off the looks. I'm not quite sure about the acting though," said nukaskovhus.
"I personally agree, too. She was pretty good in Super 8," said DrowSpectre.
