HBO telecast “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” season 4 episode 2, spent most of its energy focusing on US President Donald Trump and his ally President Vladimir Putin. A significant amount of time was spent on Russia, Putin and the prevalent political system of the Russian Federation. The show aired Feb. 19.

While there is so much about Trump to be covered at the moment, show host John Oliver, decidedly took a detour in yesterday’s show while staying connected to the US president. It was smart what he did with his main story. Russia and Putin go hand in hand with Donald Trump and it was only so much Oliver could bring to light on Sunday’s show. Here are a few highlights.

As said, “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” season 4 episode 2 saw a discussion about President Vladimir Putin and the Russian Federation. Oliver took a close look at President Putin earnings, his denial of the said earnings, as well as some of his tactics of intimidation, per Carter Matt. He also talked about the country’s history and took a look at some of the intelligence work Putin had been involved with years before coming into power.

Oliver further analysed Donald Trump’s obsession with Russia. It has been reported that the US President had on many occasions said, “wouldn’t it be great if we got along with them?” The show’s host on Sunday explained why “getting along” with Russia may not be as “great” as Trump perceives it will be. So, regardless of Donald Trump’s claims that the US and Russia are not all that different, theories suggest that the two countries are poles apart.

Romper reported, Oliver also addressed Trump's Feb. 16 solo press conference on “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” season 4 episode 2 on Sunday. The report further stated that the host basically let reporters' responses speak for themselves in his show. He even called the conference “batsh*t crazy.”

Finally, the host decided to end the show with a song about President Vladimir Putin performed by a techno-girlband. According to reports, the song, which actually exists in Russia, discusses why all the women in the country desire a guy like him.

The show, which has been known to be usually funny, had the right mix of entertainment and information on Sunday’s episode. Oliver’s focus on Putin’s wealth and also his daughter proved the same. That being said, the techno song at the episode’s climax was although fun, nothing new or surprising.
