Wallaby Matt Toomua delivered a respectable performance on Saturday in the Bledisloe Test, which pleased fellow Brumby Christian Lealiifano.

However, the public saw it differently as they are now calling for the reinstatement of Quade Cooper as starting number ten.

Toomua did not show up prolifically, but was steady all throughout the game. This, nevertheless, drew comparison to his nemesis All Blacks Aaron Cruden, who dazed the crowd with his stellar overall performance.

In Lealiifano's perspective, Toomua, although earning just his first nod, did enough to retain his starting spot for the Australians for the do-or-die game on Aug 24.

''I thought he had a fantastic game, apart from getting falconed in the head,'' Lealiifano told the Sydney Morning Herald on Tuesday.

''To me, Matty is like a little brother, you've always got to look after him."

''He hasn't done anything wrong, it's just whoever [McKenzie] wants to go with ... [but Toomua's] been in fantastic form.''

The Brumbies team was main beneficiary of the duo of Toomua and Lealiifano, which saw them reach the apex of the recently concluded Super Rugby tournament.

Aside from the display of good form by Toomua, the employment of the aforementioned successful partnership between them was also Ewen McKenzie's intention, when he picked him.

''We've had a great Super Rugby year together and now it's just about taking that next step and testing yourself at Test level, knowing how good your combination can be,'' Lealiifano said.

''Having a good year together, knowing how each other plays, puts you in good stead for Test-match footy. You've just got to trust that and try and do [the basics] well.''

Meanwhile, Lealiifano reiterated that he would not have any problem adjusting, in case Quade Cooper is selected over Toomua to do the starting chores.
