LeBron James Admits Chicago Bulls Are Better Than His Cleveland Cavaliers
Sign of weakness or just putting the jinx on the their Eastern Conference rivals? LeBron James, star and leader of the Cleveland Cavaliers admitted on Monday that his team is the worse squad compared to the Chicago Bulls owing to the fact that they have a lot of growing up to do as a team and that they do not have the same chemistry with their counterparts.
"We haven't done anything right now. They're a team that's much better than us right now just off chemistry. They've been together for a while. The system has been there for a while. So, we have a long way to go,” LeBron James said via cleveland.com, a website covering events in Northeast Ohio in Cleveland.
James’ tone is different from the one he had when he joined the Miami Heat in 2010. Four years ago, the Heat’s “Big Three” of LeBron James, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade had a welcome party in Miami and The King declared that they are winning championships in Miami, “Not 1… Not 2… Not 3…”
The then infamous speech earned LeBron and Miami more critics at that time but it appears the NBA’s best player is more than willing to layoff on guarantees of NBA titles in his return to Cleveland in 2014.
LeBron’s Cavaliers faced the Bulls in a preseason match-up also on Monday. Cleveland beat Chicago, 107-98 with LeBron finishing with 18 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Kyrie Irving added 28 points and 7 assists while Anderson Varejao had 22 points and 8 boards for the Cavaliers, which are 5-1 in the 2014 NBA Preseason.
The Bulls dropped to 4-3 for the preseason and was led by Derrick Rose’s 30 markers.
"A preseason game is not going to make our chemistry be where we want it to be," James added in the same article. "It's going to take regular-season games, it's going to take some losses, it's going to take some practices, some film sessions for all of us to get on the same page.”
Despite winning two titles— 2012 and 2013— in Miami and despite having one of the powerhouse line-ups in the NBA with the likes of Irving, Varejao, Kevin Love and Dion Waiters this season, LeBron James’ mindset is that of a mature player who understands that games are decided not in pre-game speeches and hype but inside the court.
Admitting that the Bulls are the favoured team at this point of the season simply serves as a challenge to himself and the rest of the Cavaliers that they have to work hard if they want to be the number one team in the conference and in the entire league.
