Every year or two years, it becomes necessary to change personal computing devices for several reasons. One their systems get outdated quick and two better and seemingly more convenient and functional computers always come out. Lately, the hype is on ultrabooks and convertibles? Are they really better than the previously hyped touch screens or tablets?

Convertible laptops allow users to switch from traditional laptops to a tablet. Dell Ultrabook XPS and Lenova Yoga are some examples of these. On the other side of the menu, there are ultrabooks and touch screen devices. What about each type and which is better?

It is important to check the specs of each of these computers to see which one suits a user best. Not because it can easily switch from one computing mode to another means it can cater to every user need. Some people may find it problematic to have a moving screen. If the person is always on the go then it is best to have a solid construction than a thin and vulnerable built.

The choice between a convertible and touch screen also relies on how typing convenience. Multi-touch touchpad devices can be hard to work with especially since they are extremely sensitive. They are often better with viewing and lighter typing loads.

For convertible, one of the main issues will be the price. Some are priced over thousands of dollars which may be challenging for many pockets. Convertible ultrabooks have high end parts like the Intel i7 or the Intel Core i3 or i5. The faster and higher the computing performance, the more likely the expensive - nonetheless they are also very battery efficient saving on power consumption.

Convertible ultrabooks are great for fast computing performance but not many of them have high memory. Most have 4GB Ram currently. This may not be enough for people processing and dealing with many and huge files. Adding memory may be impossible because this will require changing the motherboard all together.
