The Lesbian Chronicles: Before Former Glee Star Charice Pempengco Outed, There Was Miss Saigon Star Monique Wilson (VIDEOS & PHOTOS)

The Sunday admission of former Glee star Charice Pempengco that she is lesbian created a stir in Philippine and international media. Few may be aware, but about six months ago, another Filipina performer who had achieved international stardom also admitted she is lesbian, but her outing was subdued.

She is Monique Wilson, who was the understudy of Lea Salonga in the first London staging of Miss Saigon in the 1980s.

Although no doubt that Lea was the bigger star of the two, Monique was not spared of lesbian rumours which hounded her for several years. She was even linked to another beautiful Filipina diva, Kuh Ledesma, but the two dismissed the rumours.

It took Monique more than 20 years in show business before she admitted her gender preference. One reason why the speculations about her being lesbian was not as widespread as Charice was that Monique maintain her long hair and feminine looks, while Charice opted to be a butch, not a lipstick lesbian.

Monique even tackled a very feminine topic by taking a key role in the much acclaimed The Vagina Monologues.

However, in November 2012, Monique finally admitted she is lesbian.

Her outing was less controversial than Charice's and several weeks after her outing, Monique is back in London teaching in a theatre school.

Charice could perhaps learn a lesson or two from the former Miss Saigon star, who should probably privately tutor the Pyramid singer in Lesbian Outing 101 given that Charice just told Pep.ph that she prefers the butch look and considers Justin Bieber and Chris Brown her fashion inspirations.
