The Lesbian Chronicles: Mother of Former Glee Star Charice Pempengco Admits She Was a Tomboy Also (VIDEO & PHOTOS)

Identity crisis appears to run in the Relucio family, the maternal side of former Glee star Charice Pempengco. While the 21-year-old international singer's public admission on Sunday of being lesbian didn't surprise Filipinas, on Friday, Charice's mother threw a bigger surprise by admitting she used to be a tomboy too.

Her confirmation of undergoing an identity crisis was earlier made also be Charice's maternal grandmother, Tess Relucio, who told GMA 7 that Raquel used to bring home her female lovers.

In a separate press conference in Marikina City, when asked by media how true are rumours that Raquel had lesbian admirers before, she turned the table and said it was the other way around. She was the butch and pursued females.

However, the difference between mother and daughter is that Raquel heeded her mother's request for her to marry a man, Ricky Pempengco, who unfortunately turned out to be an irresponsible husband and father. This led Tess to have Charice's parents separate.

"I got her back, brought her home and raised them myself," Tess told Pep.ph in Tagalog.

She said the Relucios are not angry at Charice because of her gender preference, but because she turned her back on her family and preferred to be with girlfriend Alyssa Quijano, whose family initially belitted Charice, the grandmother claimed.

By leaving the family home and not even communicating with them, Raquel said she felt that Charice had abandoned them. Tess appealed to Charice not to spend all her earnings on her girlfriend's family and to meet her financial obligations such as taxes for her properties, which Raquel is paying from her pocket.

Charice acknowledges she has hurt her family so much with her actions, but said when she is prepared she will talk to them again. But that would probably take some time.

It is not only in their gender identity crisis that history repeats itself among the Relucio women but also in mother being pitted against daughter because Raquel and Tess once had a major rift that led them not to talk to each other for a long time. However, the two eventually reconciled.

Will history repeat itself in the case of Raquel and Charice? Will Charice heed the challenge of Tess, who said, "At least, your mother obeyed me because I am her mother and she did it out of love for me. How about you, do also love your mother as much?"
