LG G2 Starts Getting Android 4.4 Kitkat while HTC Announces Update Schedule
Early in December, LG announced that LG G2 owners in South Korea would get Android 4.4 KitKat before 2013 ends. It appears that Google's new operating system is being sent to G2 owners in South Korea over the air now. According to reports, carrier KT is sequentially sending out the update. But, it wasn't mentioned if it was being done from cell phone model number, purchase date or other data. The Android 4.4 KitKat update comes with around 637 MB.
LG G2 owners from other parts of the world are expected to receive the update on the first quarter of 2014. LG G2 is among the most powerful handsets in 2013. Based on performance, it's right up there with the Nexus 5, HTC One and the Samsung Galaxy S4. There have been speculations that a mini version of the LG G2 might come out soon, just like mini versions of its aforementioned competing devices have. If there will indeed be a mini version of the LG G2, rumour has it that the device will have a 540 x 960 screen resolution and a 4.3-inch screen and it will be powered by a quad core, 1.2 GHz Qualcomm SnapDragon 400 CPU.
On the other hand, HTC attempts to be more transparent, giving users a detailed software update page that breaks the process down with a neat infographic on how its devices are getting the updates. The main focus is the HTC One but other models are also included.
Since HTC One and Android 4.4 KitKat are on the forefront, instead of stating "coming soon" like most carriers and manufacturers do, it gives a 5-stage breakdown on the update status. It starts with "Evaluation" then progresses into "Development," followed by the "Integration" step. The last two steps are "Certification" and "Push," which is the most important for consumers.
With HTC One having different versions, it starts with the Unlocked HTC One to the Developer Edition and then the Google Edition. US carriers are last on the list. The detailed update also comes with comprehensive information as to where the update is in the pipe. The Unlocked HTC One, Developer Edition and Google Edition all have received Android 4.4 KitKat and US carriers appear to be getting it soon. The new update also confirms that all the previous HTC devices are still on older versions of Android.
