LG Spectrum 2 vs Samsung Galaxy Premier: Battle of Mid-range Smartphones with Affordable Prices
Sold at $99 in Verizon, the LG Spectrum 2 is viewed by tech experts as a good buy for smartphones as mid-range. Expected to be its competition in the mid-range section is Samsung's Galaxy Premier slated for release the last month of 2012, although its price tag is unknown but expected also to be in the mid-range level.
LG Spectrum 2, released on October, runs on Android 4.0 or ICS with dual core processor, 8MP camera, Quick Memo feature, NFC, and 4G LTE capability.
Samsung Galaxy Premier is a lower line than the dominating Galaxy S3 but would be equipped with dual core processors, 8MP camera, and Super AMOLED technology.
Size and Dimension
Spectrum 2: 5.31 x 2.69 x 0.36 inches of total body dimension, weighing 148 grams with Touch-sensitive controls.
Galaxy Premier: 5.28 x 2.68 x 0.35 inches of overall dimension weighing 130 grams and has Touch-sensive controls.
Display
Spectrum 2 has slightly larger screen display compared to Galaxy Premier which is 4.7" vs 4.65" but both units has 720 x 1280 display resolution and multitouch support. The difference is the screen type. Spectrum 2 has True HD-IPS LCD while Galaxy Premiere has Super AMOLED. LG Spectrum 2 has enhanced graphics interface and display with True HD Graphic Engine.
Camera
Spectrum 2 and Galaxy Premier are equipped with 8MP rear-facing camera, autofocus and LED flash. Both are capable of video recording using the rear cameras with 1080p@30fps but LG Spectrum has video light support.
Galaxy Premier edges a little higher in comparison with front-facing camera which 1.9MP versus 1.3MP of the Spectrum 2.
Operating System
These devices are running on Android OS with 4.0 ICS in Spectrum and 4.1 JellyBean for Galaxy Premiere. There are some new features in the 4.1 which are not available in the 4.0 and a lot of improvements have introduced as well.
Processing Unit and Memory
Spectrum 2 has Qualcomm dual-core 1.5GHz processor and Galaxy Premier has TI OMAP dual-core 1.5GHz processor. Graphics unit for Spectrum 2 is Adreno while Galaxy Premier uses PowerVR SGX544.
In terms of memory, both devices have 1GB of RAM and may have up to 16GB of internal storage plus expansion slot for up to 32GB of microSD card.

The Droidguy reports that Samsung has been preparing for the launch of the Galaxy Premier for a long time by securing the necessary certifications from different authorities such as the NCC in Taiwan and the FCC in the U.S. The upcoming devices garnered 7,736 points in the AnTuTu benchmark which Droidguy pointed out is a pretty decent figure for a mid-ranger.
