Li Na darts her way to Aussie Open finals
Li ranked as first Chinese and Asian to reach Grand Slam finals
Li Na of China faces Kim Clijsters in the finals match Sunday, after defeating world No 1, Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark, to win 3-6 7-5 6-3 at Australian Open tournament 2011 semi-final at Melbourne Park.
Though she struggled at the first set like she did in the quarter-final match, 29 year-old Li of China made a come back after reversing unforced errors committed against the Danish and turned her first set loss into a historical win.
''I am so happy I can be the first Chinese player coming to the final,'' said Li, according to The Age.
WTA’s No.1 Wozniacki recognizes Li’s ability to crush her at the match.
"Sometimes in matches or in tennis it's one ball that can change everything," the 20-year old ace from Denmark was quoted as saying by The Australian.
"I didn't get my match point. From then on, she was just better on the most important points. She's playing aggressively, taking the balls early. She's on a really good roll at the moment. She has the confidence."
Li is also the first Chinese ace to reach Grand Slam singles final. She marks the first Asian to ever reach the major event in Grand Slam singles. But Li has already recorded a number of first titles. She was the first to be ranked in the top 20 and then the top 10. She reached her current rank as No. 7 in 2007. She won her first WTA singles title in 2004 and she has 19 ITF titles to her credit.
