Ninth-seed Li Na of China makes her second appearance to Australian Open women semi-finals as she overpowered No. 30 seed Andrea Petkovic of Germany with straight-sets win 6-2 6-4 at the Melbourne Park Tuesday.

Off to a shaky start, Fox News said that Li lost her first serve but made her way back into the game after two late breaks, then wrapping up the first set 6-2 in 35 minutes.

Though she lost her serve again on the first game of the second set, Fox News noted that the Chinese ace changed her luck and broke into the 10th game, taking the match for 70 minutes.

Li said in an interview that she and her German nemesis ‘still played a lot of tennis’ at 6-2 6-4 score, offering nice words for Petkovic.

Li said, according to The Australian, “She has a big serve. I just played a little bit better than her,” emphasizing that one ‘can never have an easy game’ in tennis.

Her victory over Petkovic that allowed her to the lost four, gives Li a chance to prove that her advancement to the semi-finals at the Aussie Open last year was not just a stroke of luck.

The 29- year old from Wuhan has continued to deliver ‘convincing wins’ breaking a number of records for tennis history in China. According to Fox News, Li is the first tennis ace to win a tour event; the first to dart her way to top 10 and the first to power her way through a Grand Slam quarter final.

Li lost to Serena Williams at last year’s Australian Open semi-finals. This year, Li gave a warning shot saying she has no plans of losing another semi-finals. The Chinese ace faces the winner in the battle between top seed Caroline Wozniacki and Itay’s French Open winner Francesca Schiavone.
