Ex girlfriend of Liam Hemsworth, whom he was in a relationship with just before dating Miley Cyrus admits that she was shocked like the rest of the world for the couple's announced engagement.

"I'm not going to lie, I'm a little surprised," Laura Griffin admits on Celebuzz. She had dated Liam Hemsworth for six years and broke up in 2009, just around the same time when the Australian actor and Miley Cyrus started dating.

There were many speculations about their separation; tabloids even made headlines that Miley stole her boyfriend. However, Laura denied all of those rumors and said that they broke up even before Hemsworth started pursuing the "Hannah Montana" star.

"We were together when he left for America to film 'The Last Song' and we broke up after a few months of him being over there," she said. "Liam never cheated on me. That was what was portrayed in the media, but he had ended things with me when Miley and him began dating."

Griffin even said that she has accepted that she is now his "past" but admitted that she had been hurt to see Hemsworth move on so quickly right after they broke up. She however understands that America was Liam's future and she needed to be in Australia.

Liam's ex-girlfriend sounded very mature when asked about her reaction to her ex's sudden engagement to Miley Cyrus.

"Hearing your high school sweetheart who is the same age as you is getting married, is a shock," Laura said. "Of course it hurts seeing someone I spent so many years with moving on, especially when I learned from the media, but at the same time if they are in love and are happy why not? I'm very happy for him."

With regards to what she thinks if the marriage will last, Laura's answer was opposite to what the public might expect.

"If that person is your person and the world seems perfect with them in it, then yes, I do believe it can work," she said. "If that person treats you the way you deserve to be treated and you couldn't ask for any more from them and you know the time is right to commit to one another, then yes, I definitely think a successful marriage is possible at this age."
