It was all sealed up and ready to be delivered but the invitation to the Royal Wedding for the Libyan ambassador based in Britain has stayed at the Palace, and never reached his doorstep.

Official sources from the Buckingham Palace said that Britain’s Foreign Office have decided against inviting the Libyan representative. It was noted however that the invitations had already been prepared before conflict escalated in the country in March.

Britain’s Foreign Office emphasized Reuters, makes the decision on who among the foreign dignitaries should attend at the Royal Wedding on April 29. And according to the country’s protocols, foreign diplomats based in London are invited to big events such as the upcoming nuptial between Prince William and Kate Middleton.

"All heads of mission in London representing countries with which we are in normal diplomatic relations have been invited to the royal wedding," a Buckingham Palace spokeswoman was quoted as saying by Reuters.

Any country facing diplomatic problems with Britain is not invited, however.

It was emphasized in a Reuters report however that the official representatives from Iran and Zimbabwe both received wedding invitations despite diplomatic problems that have strained their relationships with London.

Five Libyan diplomats had been expelled by the European country last month since their presence could reportedly pose threats to Britain’s national security. The Libyan ambassador and other embassy personnel remain in London but not one was given a wedding invitation.
