Lil Wayne mistakenly sends condolence message to Lamar Odom's family, posts 'R.I.P' tweet
Lamar Odom is currently still fighting for his life at Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas. The former NBA player is still in a coma and reportedly has a slim chance of survival. However, Lil Wayne may have misheard something else regarding Odom’s condition since he tweeted that the former NBA star is dead.
Lil Wayne has since deleted his post, but not before multiple news sites, including Mirror UK, picked up what he wrote. In his tweet, the rapper said, “R.I.P. LO. Dam man. My blessings to ur fam and friends.” Later, he seemed to have realised his mistake after some fans informed him about Odom's current condition. Lil Wayne then simply corrected his post with a simple tweet.
Aside from Lil Wayne, Cleveland Cavaliers guard J.R. Smith also assumed Odom was already dead and posted an “R.I.P.” message on social media. Smith posted a lengthy eulogy on his Instagram page, which has now been deleted. However, Thunder Treats managed to grab a screenshot of his post.
“RIP LO Damn man I can’t believe this…if this isn’t a sign I don’t know what is!!! This life is so much bigger then [sic] basketball on any other sport! I can’t imagine what he was going through but I know he could have had some better people in his corner!” Smith wrote, along with a photo of Odom dressed in his basketball jersey.
A copy of Smith’s full eulogy can be read from Thunder Treats. The Cavaliers player ended his post with the hashtag #RIPLO.
Odom’s publicist, Eve Sarkisyan, has since spoken up against false information being reported about Odom’s condition. In a statement sent to US Weekly, she warned people against listening or reading about unofficial updates about the former NBA player’s health circulating online. She also asked for people to show respect to his “family’s privacy during this difficult time.”
Odom’s ex-wife, Khloe Kardashian, is reportedly currently at his bedside while he battles for his life. It’s believed Kardashian will still make decisions about his medical condition even though they have filed for divorce in July, since their divorce papers have yet to be finalised.
