Lindsay Lohan to serve jail time for necklace case… at home
The Freaky Friday star received her latest court sentence through her lawyer, as if deciding to begin serving her time the same day hiding in her Venice home, away from the media lenses.
After pleading no contest Wednesday to the alleged stealing of the $2,500 necklace from a Venice jewelry store, the Los Angeles courthouse sentenced actress Lindsay Lohan to a two-week jail time.
And like what she had openly argued in the court through her lawyer, Shawn Holley Chapman, the actress avoids jail in her latest punishment. But not only dodging the three-year imprisonment - - should she was convicted of the grand felony theft that she was originally charged with - - the actress can even serve her two-week punishment, at her Venice home - - in front of the beach, a vacation for the embattled actress, according to news reports.
The Freaky Friday star, noted the Agence France Presse received her latest court sentence through her lawyer, as if deciding to begin serving her time the same day hiding in her Venice home, away from the media lenses.
The two-week under house arrest is part of the deal that the actress and her legal team have entered into putting Lohan out of jail for leaving the Kamofie and Co. store wearing the necklace, without paying it.
Along with court ruling, the ‘Parent Trap’ star got her next court date. Lohan is expected to surrender to jail authorities on or before June 17.
"House arrest is supposed to be in lieu of jail," Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Stephanie Sautner was quoted as saying by the Agence France Presse as she announced her ruling.
The judge also clarified in her order that Lohan should stay at least 100 yards away from the jewelry store.
The court orders also included psychological counseling and a complete course of shoplifters which the actress is required to complete as part of her no contest plea for misdemeanor theft.
