Lionel Messi’s goal rescues Barcelona
Argentinean star Lionel Messi rescued Barcelona as they had a close 1-1 draw against Real Sociedad. On Sunday’s La Liga Clash tournament, Messi’s goal saved the team as they were already behind Real Madrid. It was his 19th goal of the season and would seem to be a memorable one since he did it before the hour mark.
That impressive goal was a joint effort by Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior and Messi. After hurdling his way and pushing the ball out of Sociedad’s defenders, Neymar was able to pass the ball to Messi with only six minutes left in the game.
During the game, it was observed that Sociedad was at the winning streak. They dominated the entire game as witnessed by their fans and the onlookers. They started off well and were always taking the lead in the scoreboard. During the first 15 minutes in the game, Sociedad had the entire game into their hands as they didn’t give Barcelona an opportunity to score. However, after half time, Gerard Pique was covering the goal line when Willian Jose's effort of pushing the ball out of the way made an own goal. In that instance, Barcelona new that they still had a chance.
The first ever shot from Barcelona came in alone during the 51st minute of the game when Neymar made a free corner kick but was saved by Geronimo Rulli. It was reported that Barcelona’s Yuri Berchiche and Carlos Martinez made a lot of mistakes in their crosses from wide positions. The team still stayed goalless until the second half of the tournament. Messi’s shot made it for Barcelona as they didn’t lose in the game. It was quite a disappointment for Sociedad because they were already expecting to win. But because of Messi’s equaliser, Barcelona will enter next weekend's El Clasico.
It was a good week for Messi yet it was the opposite for Neymar. There were allegations about the Brazilian star as it was reported that he would be sentenced to jail for tax fraud. Aside from that, he was also in a car accident on Sunday morning. He was also in an argument with Barcelona’s assistant coach Juan Carlos Unzu during one of their trainings. Despite all the mishaps that happened to him, he celebrated together with the team as he offered a lot to their play as he helped Messi out.
