In time for the G8 Summit in Northern Ireland, A-list celebrities such as Matt Damon, Robert de Niro, Alec Baldwin, Michael Douglas, Whoopi Goldberg, Morgan Freeman, Naomi Watts and Cristoph Waltz all appeared in a video appealing to President Obama to stop the use of nuclear weapons. The video was entitled "The World Must Stand Together."

In the video, seasoned actor Robert de Niro said, "Some argue that the spread of these weapons cannot be stopped, cannot be checked.

Multi-awarded actor Matt Damon said in response, "Such fatalism is a deadly adversary."

Seasoned actor Michael Douglas had his message perfectly across in the video, "The message from national security experts and citizens around the world is clear: the only way to eliminate the global nuclear danger is to eliminate all nuclear weapons. It's time to set the world's course to zero."

Respected old time actor Morgan Freeman emphasized that, "Nuclear weapons are obsolete relics of Cold war, they do not address today's security threats, and they cost $1 trillion per decade globally. It is time we get rid of them."

The video was produced by the group called Global Zero which aimed to "eliminate all nuclear weapons by 2030" by stopping the "propagation and production of nuclear weapons, secure the current worldwide arsenal and eventually disarm the more than 17,000 nuclear weapons in existence."

In a press release made public by Global Zero they stressed that President Obama "will have to go beyond the bilateral process President Reagan started of U.S. Soviet/Russian arms reductions and bring the other leading nuclear powers into international arms negotiations for the first time history."

Pushing for the Obama Administration to pay attention to the cause, Global Zero had also sent an open letter addressed to president Obama.

In the open letter, Global Zero remind President Obama about a speech in 2009 where he stated clearly and with conviction that he is committed to seek a world without nuclear weapons.

The open letter goes, "You ask for perseverance. You dared us to overcome our differences. You challenged us to ignore the voices that tell us the world cannot change. And you told us words must mean something. We heard you."

Global Zero appealed, "On June 17-18, when you meet with President Putin on the side of the G8 Summit, we urge you to negotiate further cuts to the massive U.S. Russian Cold War stockpiles and pave the way to bringing world leaders into the first international negotiations in history for the elimination of all nuclear weapons."

More about Global Zero:

Global Zero has emerged as one of the most remarkable social movements in history. Powered by a visionary group of 300 leaders and experts who support our bold, step-by-step plan to eliminate all nuclear weapons by 2030, the relentless creativity, energy and optimism of young people and half a million citizens worldwide, we're challenging the 20th century idea of basing national security on the threat of mass destruction - and together we are making real progress on the road to global zero.

Global Zero leaders understand that the only way to eliminate the nuclear threat - including proliferation and nuclear terrorism - is to stop the spread of nuclear weapons, secure all nuclear materials and eliminate all nuclear weapons: global zero.

We've spent years building a non partisan, international community of influential political, military, business, civic and faith leaders - matched by a powerful global grassroots movement. We're not tilting at windmills. We've got a plan. And it's backed by experts and leading newspapers worldwide. The challenge now is getting world leaders to act on it - and only an unprecedented international demand for zero can create the necessary political will to make it happen.

Today, there are 17,000 nuclear weapons on earth. Together, we can bring that number to zero.
