Niko Rosberg ended up third fastest in his Mercedes, but a concern rose when he locked the rear brakes and was on the verge of a spin while entering the pitlane.

In another incident, Caterham's Marcus Ericssion looped his car under braking for the final corner. Sauber's Adrian Sutil had to face similar fate, but both were unharmed.

Sergio Perez also faced a problem with Force India after his installation lap failed to finish another lap of the session.

However, using additional bonus tyres in the first half an hour, practice definitely benefited. During this time, Alonso proved fastest ahead of Magnussen.
