Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp warns Pep Guardiola about fixture congestion in England
Jurgen Klopp has sent warning signals to his former Bundesliga colleague Pep Guardiola regarding the hectic schedule of English football.
Guardiola is expected to take up a manager’s position in one of England’s top clubs next season after declaring that the current season in Germany as Bayern Munich's coach would be his last. The biggest challenge the Spaniard is set to face in England is the extra games, according to Klopp.
The Liverpool supremo has stated that he was unaware of the fact that the Capital One Cup semi-final has two legs. Klopp also stated that his friends from Germany were surprised when they heard about the replay matches in FA Cup.
Klopp joined Liverpool last October and had to adjust his life to the demands of English football quickly before the rigorous winter stretch of football games started. The German stated that Guardiola needs to buy more players if he has to survive in England.
“The number of games is the biggest difference. When I came here, I didn’t know there were two rounds in the semi-final of the Capital One Cup.” Klopp said, according to The Telegraph.
With Europa League matches coming up next month and Liverpool set to play Exeter again in a FA Cup replay following their third round draw on Friday, Klopp said that it was not his playing style or training methods but the football schedule that is causing the injuries in Anfield.
“I don’t have to tell Pep Guardiola anything because he is that experienced.” Klopp added.
Klopp currently has 12 players out with injury and the German has stated that if this was an instance in Germany then he would have had additional time in the winter break which would have allowed his players to come back. But, the scenario in England is completely different.
Speaking on England, Klopp mentioned the country to be “very positive”. He went on praise the people and the food. He also stated that the weather is not that good.
Meanwhile, Liverpool have ended Danny Ward’s loan spell at Aberdeen. The goalkeeper has been recalled after impressing for the club in Scotland.
