Liverpool Defender Leaves $160,000 Porsche Stuck in Mud
England U-21 footballer Andre Wisdom did not have a particularly good weekend.
On his way to a game against Sheffield Wednesday, the footballer, currently on loan with Derby County, programmed his sat-nav system to guide him to his home stadium.
"Andre visited a local shop... Being new and unfamiliar to the area, he programmed the stadium's postcode into his sat-nav," a spokesperson for Derby County said on Sunday.
That little detour proved to be a huge mistake, as the sat-nav gave him a "less than traditional" route down rickety roads. It didn't help that there was a heavy downpour a few hours before Wisdom went into the area, and the road was reduced to a pit of mud by the time he made it there.
A local, Pete Irons, found the silver-gray Porsche Panamera Turbo worth $160,000 in the ditch, which was ironically close to the Breadsall Pride Marriott Hotel. He was initially unaware that the Porsche belonged to Wisdom.
"I have no idea what he was thinking," Irons told the Express. "We are miles from any main road, and the track doesn't go anywhere."
"To get to that point, he would have to come through an equally muddy section," Irons said of the driver.
The car had to be abandoned in the middle of the woods on the outskirts of Derby as Wisdom was about to miss his kick-off. The incident reduced him to walking three miles to a main road, where he waited for a car sent for him by Derby County.
The 20-year-old Wisdom had been bragging about his new ride on Facebook and Twitter. Thankfully, Irons called the police, which promptly initiated recovery procedures, sending a Jeep to tow the car to dry land, and the car was observed to have emitted heavy smoke as it was being towed.
The incident did not seem to affect Wisdom's performance on the pitch, though, as he helped Derby County in a 3-0 win over the visiting Sheffield Wednesday side. He was unavailable for comment on the issue.
For the moment, though, he will have to think about getting his car all fixed up again.
"I think it will definitely need a bit of TLC in a garage," Irons told the Express.
