Liverpool transfer news: Reds in advanced talks for Mario Gotze, Robert Lewandowski's possible summer exit puts club on alert
Liverpool are rumoured to be in advance talks of possibly signing Bayern Munich forward Mario Gotze this summer.
According to Spanish journalist Kike Marin, Liverpool are frontrunners to acquire Gotze once the summer transfer window opens. Martin confirmed on his official Twitter account that negotiations to bring Gotze in the Premier League side is already underway, claiming that the reported talks are at an advanced stage.

Gotze has been reportedly unhappy with his stay at Allianz Arena this season, and the 23-year-old German could be bound for a reunion with Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, who kick started his career during their time together at Borussia Dortmund. Gotze had 99 appearances for Borussia Dortmund before completing a £31.5 million (AU$59.5 million) transfer to Bayern in 2013.
Last month, Football Insider reported that Liverpool could snatch Gotze for a cut-price transfer fee of £20 million (AU$37.8 million). The report also noted that Gotze, whose contract with Bayern Munich expires in 2017, was originally rated by the Bundesliga sides around £50 million (AU$94.6 million).
Gotze could give Liverpool another attacking option, with some the club’s offensive players under-performing this season.
Meanwhile, the Reds are on alert over another Bayern Munich player in Robert Lewandowski, who could leave the German club after talks over a contract extension went standstill. According to the Mirror, Lewandowski’s was lined with Liverpool for another player-coach reunion scenario, Bayern chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge is not too concerned about the Polish international’s contract situation with the club.
"I won't comment on contracts because we are not joining the agent's game," Rummenigge said, reports ESPN FC. "Looking at the contract lengths, we can look to the future relaxed."
Lewandowski has scored 25 goals in 27 games for Bayern Munich this season. The 27-year-old has also been linked to Premier League rival Manchester City and La Liga side Real Madrid.
