Earth-hour began in Sydney in 2007. Five years later, it has become a huge expression of support and concern for a cleaner world.

On 31st March at 8:30 pm, the world was plunged into darkness for an hour. This was apparently one of the biggest earth-hour participations, with approximately 150 countries that included more than 6,000 cities, deciding to switch-off their lights.

Millions of people turned off their lights in a show of solidarity for the earth.

Former South African President Nelson Mandela tweeted: "let us stand together to make of our world a sustainable source for our future as humanity on this planet"
