Lorde has finally broken her silence on Iggy Azalea’s alleged diss of her Nirvana tribute. The Kiwi songstress said it didn’t matter that the Australian rapper thought she was “not appropriate” to sing the late Kurt Cobain’s song.

“Nothing against her, but I think when you’re doing a tribute to someone that’s dead, generally it should be the person’s peer,” the 24-year-old “Fancy” hitmaker told Billboard of Lorde’s collaborative performance with Nirvana at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony in the U.S.

“Lorde is not Kurt Cobain’s peer. No matter if she killed the performance or not, I just don’t think it’s appropriate.”

A few days after the article was printed, Iggy then took to Twitter to clarify her remarks, denying that she started a feud with her “southern hemispheric soul sister.”

“I consider lorde my very talented friend. I find it ironic 2 girls tell the media theyre full of s*** & weeks later supposedly I dislike her,” she wrote.

“My opinion on the makings of a touching musical tribute wasn’t meant as some back door way to take a dig at her performance or the performance she gave.

“sorry if it came across that way, it’s not what I intended & I feel genuinely bad about it because I still think lorde is an awesome chick.”

Lorde has remained quiet during the issue, perhaps opting to let Iggy explain her way through the mess. But now, the 17-year-old Grammy winner has spoken about the controversy, saying it didn’t matter what Iggy thought.

“I enjoyed it. I had a good time. That’s all that mattered,” she told Confidential.

Being no stranger to controversy, Lorde understood how Iggy sounded so disapproving when she criticised her Nirvana tribute.

“I’ve been in a position where I’ve said something in an interview where I’ve thought: ‘Damn, I wish I could take that back.’

“I don’t know how (Iggy) is feeling about it. But anyone who’s doing well deserves respect, and I respect what she’s doing.”

Meanwhile, Lorde is willing to become a wedding singer for her parents.

Just recently, the “Royals” singer excitedly announced that her dad Vic O’Connor and mum Sonja Yelich got engaged after almost 30 years and four children together.

“If they want me to sing, I will sing,” she said. “I can do that.”
