Lorde is celebrating her birthday by releasing the music video to the “Mockingjay” soundtrack “Yellow Flicker Beat.” The Kiwi songstress, who turns 18 Friday, debuted a darker themed video than any of her earlier releases.

The Grammy winner shared “Yellow Flicker Beat” in September, describing her song as her “attempt at getting inside her head,” referring to Katniss, the heroine of the “Hunger Games” novel and film series. The song is one of the tracks featured in “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1” soundtrack, which she curated.

The young singer excited announced the music video’s debut hours before it premiered. She followed it up with stills from the video.

While the music video appears nothing to do with the movie itself, it perfectly captures Katniss’ (played by Jennifer Lawrence in the films) feeling of isolation. The video starts with Lorde sitting alone in a seedy motel then cut to other scenes, still with her being alone in dimly lit settings. There’s also a scene where Lorde does her perhaps now-signature dance moves on a highway while surrounded by people in the shadows.

In contrast with Lorde’s top-charting song “Royals,” “Yellow Flicker Beat” has a sinister feel to it. And with its accompanying music video featuring dark visuals, it sounds and looks ominous at best. Its catchy tune and decidedly entrancing beats make it a winning song, though.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1” soundtrack also included tracks from a number of artists, such as Charlie XCX, Simon Le Bon, Major Lazer, Ariana Grande, Tinashe, Bat for Lashes, Tove Lo, XOV, Raury, The Chemical Brothers and Miguel. The soundtrack will be released on November 17.

The film stars Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks and Donald Sutherland among many others. It will be released on November 20 in theatres.
