Lorde’s Debut Album ‘Pure Heroine’ Hits 1M Sales In U.S.

Another day, another record broken by Lorde. The teen wonder from New Zealand has become the first woman to sell more than a million copies of a debut album since Adele in 2011.

The 17-year-old “Royal” hitmaker’s debut album, “Pure Heroine,” crossed the threshold after it sold 30,000 copies in the week ending February 23, which brought its total sales to 1.01 million, according to Nielsen SoundScan, which was obtained by Billboard.

The last debut album that reached a million copies sold is by Hunter Hayes. His self-titled album reached the mark in the week ending Oct 27, 2013.

But it was almost three years ago when a woman took home the crown. Adele’s debut “19” hit a million in sales in April 2011.

“Pure Heroine” has released its fourth single, “Glory and Gore,” to mixed reviews. It reached 88 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.

Meanwhile, Bruce “The Boss” Springsteen has shown his love for Lorde during his concert in her home city. The music legend sang his cover of “Royals” at the Mt Smart Stadium in Auckland on Saturday.

He joins a number of other artists who has covered Lorde’s most popular song, including Selena Gomez, T-Pain, and Jason Derulo.
