"Lost" actor Doug Hutchison, 51, has created a wave of controversy by announcing he has married a 16-year-old aspiring country singer.

According to a statement that the couple sent to E! News, the actor from the popular TV series confirmed that he married teenager Courtney Alexis Stodden. The couple initially met over the Internet when Stodden signed up for acting classes on Doug's website.

The controversial couple married in Las Vegas where it is legal for a 16-year-old to wed with their parents' blessing.

"We're aware that our vast age difference is extremely controversial," the pair said.

"But we're very much in love and want to get the message out there that true love can be ageless," the couple further shared.

Actor Hutchison played DHARMA initiative head Horace Goodspeed in "Lost" as well as the masochistic guard Percy in the film "The Green Mile."

According to reports, Hutchison's wife is a former beauty pageant queen who is trying to launch a singing career. She is also currently signed to Hutchison's production company.

Meanwhile, it is legal for people aged 16 to marry in Las Vegas provided that they have the consent of their parents. Courtney's mother, Krista, has come to the defense of her son-in-law.

"He's not creepy," she told Radar. "He is such a great guy, he's so intelligent," she further added. Krista is not even perturbed by the 35-year age gap.

"I see why they're together, he looks like he's in his early 30s, and Courtney looks like he's in her late 20s. It's like they're talking about someone else when they say bad things about Doug. He's with my daughter and I wouldn't want a creepy guy with my daughter. He's a wonderful, great man," Courtney's mother shared.

It has also been reported that Krista has become Courtney's manager and has moved in next door to her daughter in Los Angeles.

"Doug was managing Courtney's career, but he has so many things coming his way that he just can't handle it all," Krista shared.

"It will be better for Courtney with me managing her. I love my daughter, and I've been a good parent," the proud mother added.
