'Lucifer' Season 2: 'He is a wild animal' who could 'snap' at any moment
Tom Ellis’s character is expected to go in search of his mum in “Lucifer” Season 2. The actor teased the evolution of his character in an interview and also talked about the first season, which has been a huge success.
In an interview with Empire Online, Ellis said that the next season will explore how the Prince of Darkness is not just a selfish being and there will be some conflict within him. However, the show will still focus on him being the Devil and the actor said that it is important for his character to remember who he really is.
Ellis said that the show will “keep the notion that he is a wild animal that is seemingly being tamed, but at any moment could snap.” The actor said that all these aspects are important for the evolution of his character and where the writers are taking him in “Lucifer” Season 2.
Talking about his portrayal of the character, Ellis said that it was interesting to strip away a whole side of the Devil and show him in a fresh new way. “Underneath it all, there was a guy who was a hurt soul and rejected from his father,” he said. The character doesn’t know what an emotion is, so when he feels something - he doesn’t really know what he is feeling.
What differentiates the Devil in the show from what the audience has seen over the years is that the Prince of Darkness has a soul in the TV series, Ellis pointed out. “That's what we tied in with the notion of that episode when the priest walked into the bar,” he said.
“Lucifer” TV series is expected to go on for a few years after Season 2, so the writers may not bring about any dramatic transformation in the character too soon. Ellis praised the writers and said that even though it may seem like the transformation of his character is too much too soon; it is not the case.
