Could Luka Rocca Magnotta have been influenced by an old movie?, The Ontario man is suspected of having killed a Chinese student with an ice pick and subsequently dismembering his victim's body.

In his article, "The Luka Rocco Magnotta case," writer Jay Stone of Postmedia News noted Magnotta seemed to have imitated art in the alleged ice pick murder.

Stone said the 1992 film "Basic Instinct" starring Sharon Stone had similarities in Magnotta's case.

In the film, Sharon Stone portrays the role of novelist Catherine Tramell, who kills a lover with an ice pick.

Magnotta reportedly filmed and uploaded his alleged crime to a gore and violence website, and called his video, "1 Lunatic, 1 Ice Pick."

Magnotta may have the flair for drama. Moments before he was arrested in Berlin, he tried to give different names to the arresting officer before finally giving up, saying a one-liner fit for a movie: "You got me."

He is suspected of committing a crime that many police have not seen in their lifetime. The body of the murdered Chinese national was dismembered, and a human torso was found behind Magnotta's building on Tuesday last week. The same day, a severed hand and a severed foot in separate parcels were sent to Ottawa's Liberal and Conservative headquarters, respectively.

Magnotta reportedly had links to a notorious Canadian killer, Karla Homolka, but this has not been confirmed.

In another dramatic violence, Magnotta uploaded torturing kittens in 2010, drawing anger and rage from animal protection groups and many others.

Is Magnotta's life deeply troubled?

A report has surfaced that Magnotta's stints as a model and adult film actor did not seem to have provided a life of luxury for him. Magnotta had filed for bankruptcy in 2007 with documents in Mississauga, Ontario.

A porn actor with no money and a life linked to gore and violence. Did Magnotta find "inspiration" in a film to protest the miseries in his life? Did he commit the murder with full awareness that there is no death penalty in Canada?
