Is Lupus (Not Justin Bieber) The Real Reason Why Selena Gomez Cancelled Her Australian Tour?
Selena Gomez has lupus, that’s why she cancelled her Australian tour. According to a new report, the real reason why the former Disney star called off her lucrative shows is because she needs to deal with health issues.
Earlier in December, the 21-year-old star disappointed her young Aussie fans when she announced that she was cancelling her shows in Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne from February 1 to 8. She has also cancelled the rest of her Asian tour, including dates in Japan, China, Malaysia, Singapore, and the Philippines.
“My fans are so important to me and I would never want to disappoint them,” Selena had said in a statement released by her concert promoter Live Nation.
“But it has become clear to me and those close to me that after many years of putting my work first, I need to spend some time on myself in order to be the best person I can be. To my fans, I sincerely apologise and I hope you guys know how much each and every one of you mean to me.”
Her cancellation prompted media to come up with varying speculations and explanations. Some reported that she was still pining for ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber, whose antics make him a constant tabloid fodder. Others claimed that Selena is entering a rehab facility for her alleged drug addiction.
There were even those who asserted that the “Come and Get It” singer is pregnant.
But according to Pop Dust, Selena isn’t pregnant, addicted to anything, or pining for the 19-year-old Canadian tween heartthrob.
Apparently, Selena is suffering from lupus, and she needs her time off to take care of her health.
Sources told the gossip Web site claims that Selena was diagnosed with the disease about two years ago. Recently, she has suffered multiple “flares,” causing extreme fatigue, headaches, joint pains, and facial swelling.
“Selena has been going full throttle the past few years and her lupus is really catching up with her right now,” a source told the site. “She knows that she needs to take some time to address the disease and look after herself better if she wants to live a full and healthy life.”
Her rep declined to confirm or deny the new report.
What is lupus?
According to the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases, lupus is a disease that makes one’s immune system to attack healthy cells and tissues, causing damage to many parts of the body, including the joints, skin, kidneys, heart, lungs, blood vessels, and brain.
It mostly affects women, and is more common in women of African American, Hispanic, Asian, and Native American descent than in Caucasian women.
